Xennial DIY: Remodeling My Bathroom and Reclaiming My Identity

“On the Fly” Musings and a Xennial DIY mission…

Hello!  This blog post is written with absolutely no plan.  I was reading my Bible this morning, had a few astounding revelations and I realized, I need to keep writing here, but sometimes…life.  It’s so busy right???  Time may seem so slow for some, but for me, time isn’t just flying, it’s breaking the sound barrier!

Time Traveling from the Reagan Era

Between work, driving and running a business my calendar is a blur. But lately, one specific project has captured my focus: remodeling the hall bathroom. This bathroom remodel has been LONG overdue.  It’s had the same vanity, flooring and wall color since Reagan was in office.  Talk about putting things in perspective!  I can’t say I have done it all myself.  I’ve had help and I still have help, but my desire is to explore the unknown world of hanging things, measuring wall spaces, removing old wallpaper (why did they put that up in the bathroom?), spackling, all of it.   I’ve chosen white for the cabinet and vanity, and painting the wall a navy blue. The other walls have glued vinyl flooring that looks like wood. That part is beautiful!  I’ll know how the paint looks once I get there, which hopefully I’ll get to today and tomorrow. The vanity is in and I have to install the mirror, which lights up!  The rest will follow.

The Xennial Spirit: Between Analog and Digital

My DIY mission actually ties in to something  I saw this week,  a video about Generation X the “Xennial” micro-generation (born 1976-1983).  They are the bridge generation between Gen X and Millennials. According to what I have read, they are often referred to as the “Oregon Trail Generation” as they are characterized by an analog childhood and a digital adulthood, having experienced the rise of the internet and social media in their youth rather than when they were young children. I find it fascinating and it baffled me that this is actually a thing!  My life was truly split between analog and digital!

I also learned that Gen X’ers learned how to fix things and figure many things out on their own, which is partly the inspiration as to why I am excited to take on the task of learning how to do as much work in this bathroom as possible.  It’s been mentally satisfying to figure things out, of course with the help of the internet and YouTube.  I miss problem solving.  I personally believe that this is a severe downfall to society, relying more and more on technology to “think” for us.  I am guilty and I am determined to do the things that involve problem solving and constructive work.

Why I’m Choosing Paper Over Pixels

Additionally, I have learned that writing on paper is good for our brain.  I still take notes in my journal, have a paper calendar on my desk and countless notebooks are filled with numbers and daily, weekly “to do lists”.  It enhances memory and learning, increases brain activity, improves focus and attention, can help with reducing stress and emotional processing and spark creativity.  I hope to continue writing always!  If you haven’t written in a while, grab a pencil or pen and a notebook.  Keep it next to your bed at night.  It may help you feel better!Calendar and notebook journal.

Aldi Treasures and Healthy Discoveries

I also want to mention some things that I’m loving right now.  First up, is shopping at Aldi.  That store just makes me feel happy!  I have come to love their brand and my favorite items are their sourdough bread, donut holes and baked chips.  I hate to admit that I drink Celsius, which I do love to drink but I have found a brand at Aldi called “Vivee”.  It has 180mg of natural caffeine, pro-biotics and 0 sugar and it costs less than Celsius. My favorite flavor is peach mango.  Bonus, the Celsius drinks are also less expensive at Aldi.  Going to that store is a treat for me and I’m looking forward to when they complete the store that will be less than 5 minutes away from my home.

I am also enjoying EveryDay Dose. I’ve been taking it for about 3-4 weeks.  I haven’t noticed a tremendous difference in mental clarity but perhaps I need to drink it for a longer period of time.  Next up, Primal Life organics.  I’ve been dealing with some gum recession, and since switching to their Hydroxyapatite Tooth Powder, the bleeding has stopped. It feels like it’s actually healing naturally! Others in my household have reported their teeth have stopped hurting and less bleeding when brushing. It is a Hydroxyapatite toothpaste and they have all the information on their website on how their tooth powder can heal your teeth and gums, naturally.

Most importantly to me. I want to share a man I discovered on YouTube name Jamie Walden.  He is former military (Marine Corps) has fought on the battlefield, a paramedic, has so much experience with the hard things of life and the best part, he loves the Lord so much!  He talks so much on what is going on in the world right now and what’s to come.  He does it in a way that not only prepares us but also encourages us to not be afraid. I hope you’ll visit his channel and listen to a few of his videos.

A Note on True Identity

Bringing this post full circle to the beginning.  Time.  I realized today that if I don’t write here…say something, when will I again?  I love writing here but time moves so fast and I don’t want it to be so long before I write here again.  So, I’ll conclude by saying this was more like a journal entry.  I hope it was helpful to you.  I am excited to continue sharing my life with you.

When I sit with the LORD, I pray for people in emotional pain and anguish.   My heart is drawn to pray for those in all stages of it.  My prayer is that you know your identity in Christ, because knowing this helps in dealing with the pain.
No trauma or words spoken to you that are NOT uplifting to your soul, define you.  If this is just one small sprinkling of sugar for your soul, please take it!  I have been challenged in my life in the last few years to see others and myself in ways I never have.  I have experienced things that have challenged my belief in who defines me.  I can say with full assurance: no one -absolutely no one- defines who I am but the LORD GOD Almighty.  Do not let anyone dictate to you, who you are.  If you don’t know who you are…read the Bible, talk to someone who truly loves Jesus and you can always write me.  I’m also on Facebook at LostLovedFound.

I will talk more about this as this is vitally important to me. And since I said the word “me”, if you’d like to know more about me, I talk about it here:

God bless you!

Until Next Time!
